Exhibition Review

“Backlash” is a multimedia exhibition currently on display at Yassi Foundation. Leo Guy-Denarcy, the curator of this show has explained: “This show is organized based on the necessity to think about the body; thoughts that go through different and heterogeneous desires. The body is the place of accumulation of energy and vital mutation, and the starting point of movement, as well as the place of documenting narrations of various metaphors.”
The exhibition consists of five works by four foreign artists, that reflect a critical look at the body and its approaches to dealing with different subjects.
An important, curatorial point of this project is to study the different readings of the Middle East borders, which are directly and indirectly visible in the works of each of these artists. The theme of the works are mostly social and political issues, mixed with the artists’ critical look, and emphasizes the liberating potentials of the body as the curator has stated.
The works in this exhibition include video, material, photography, and drawing, and Mohamed Bourouissa, Chourouk Hriech, Sara Sadik and Chedly Atallah are the artists who participated.
