This series is named “The Steady Gaze”. It started in the fifth semester of my studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tehran University, for my portrait photography class with Ms. Ghazaleh Hedayat. Urban portraits were part of the exercises in this class, and I wanted to choose a subject that would be a continuation of my previous works.
First, I was going every day to the Karun River in Ahvaz to photograph people who were staring at this view, while it was not clear what they were actually looking at. The people staring at a declining landscape was the only common point of all these images. Then I started photographing the view in front of them and placed them next to their portraits.
I showed this project once in the sixth annual photo exhibition of Tehran University and once in Cheshmak magazine.
